New Mini Cooper S launched at Rs 34.65 lakh
Mini has launched the new and improved Cooper S in India. Available only in 3-Door body style here, the Cooper S is a petrol version of the earlier launched 3-Door & 5-Door diesel variants of the new-gen Mini Cooper. The company has put a price-tag of Rs 34.65 lakh (ex-showroom) on the new Cooper S in India, and will be selling it via the CBU (completely built-up unit) route.
Mini introduced the all-new Cooper in India in November 2014. Although that time the company only made it available in diesel variants. Now, Mini has brought in the petrol version of the new Cooper in India in order to ‘meet the aspirations of the performance-oriented Mini fans’. The Mini Cooper has always been known for its go-kart like handling and dynamics. Adding a sprightly petrol motor in the mix will only make the drive experience more involving for sure.
Under the hood of the Cooper S, Mini has plonked in a 2.0-litre bi-turbo petrol motor developing 189PS of maximum power and 280Nm of peak-torque. The engine comes mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox that channels drive furiously to the front wheels. Performance claims suggest the new Cooper S will reach to 100 km/h from standstill in 6.7 seconds. The ARAI certified fuel economy of the Cooper S is 15.7 km/l.
On design front, the newly launched version remains mostly the same as the Cooper D 3-door, save for some additional ‘sporty’ design elements. The front fascia of the car adorns an aggressive grille with a honeycomb upper section and a single chrome bar with a distinguishing ‘S’ badge as opposed to the diesel variant’s three-bar grille. The lower air-dam sports aggressive brake-ducts while a massive hood-scoop on the bonnet reveals the sporty character of the car. At the back, the Cooper S has a new spoiler and centrally located dual-exhaust pipes. Dual fog-lamps have also been added to the rear of the car. Mini is also offering full LED headlamps on the new Cooper S as an optional extra.
Inside, the design layout remains largely unchanged from the Cooper D 3-door variant. However, it gets darker theme to reflect the sporty nature of the car. The instrument cluster now sits behind the sporty three-spoke multi-function steering wheel, while a large multimedia screen adorns the centre console. Mini claims, the interior space is increased while foldable rear backrest with adjustable tilt angle add to the convenience factor for the driver and occupants in the car. Depending on mood, the driver can also choose from different driving modes- GREEN, SPORT and MID- to alter the driving characteristics, interior lighting and engine sound etc.
Safety is of prime importance when you are playing with the Cooper S, and so, the standard safety equipment in the new Cooper S includes front and passenger
airbags, 3-point seat belts, dynamic stability control, crash sensor, anti-lock braking system (ABS) and run-flat indicator. Commenting on the launch of the new Cooper S, Philipp von Sahr, President, BMW Group India said, “Mini never stops to surprise you. Just when you thought we could not possibly make the new Mini any more exciting, we did exactly that. Minis have always had a knack for speed and agility and the new Cooper S takes that passion even further. The powerful Mini TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder engine takes the classic go-kart feeling to new heights as it revels in the mind-blowing force of increased power and acceleration. The new Mini Cooper S is furiously fun and ready to dominate the Indian streets like never before.” The new Mini Cooper S is available in a total of 11 exterior shades- Pepper White and Volcano Orange as non-metallic paintwork while Grey, Blazing Red, Lapisluxury Blue, British Racing Green, Iced Chocolate, Thunder Grey, Deep Blue, White Silver and Midnight Black are offered in metallic finish.
