The OnePlus One was launched in June, while the Desire 820 was announced recently, at the IFA 2014 event. Both phones are absolutely amazing: very powerful, with high screen resolutions and advanced cameras. But, the HTC phone has a small battery and this could be an inconvenience for those hardcore users.

Displays, designs and sizes

These phablets have screens of the same size, 5.5inches and they’re LCDs, but with different resolutions. While the Desire 820’s display supports 720x1280pixels with 267ppi, the OnePlus One has a screen packed with 1080x1920pixels and 401ppi, which means that you’ll have a better viewing experience with the Chinese phone. But the OnePlus One is even more convenient, being less prone to scratches thanks to the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 covering its display.

The Desire 820 is a little bit taller, but slimmer, measuring 157.7×78.7×7.7mm and it’s also lighter, at 155grams. The OnePlus One weights 162grams and measures 152.9×75.9×8.9mm. As for the exterior, the Desire 820 is famous for its two-toned unibody with outlined camera lens and colored frame. The casing is made of polycarbonate material, but it looks pretty nice, and it has round corners. The OnePlus One, on the other hand, has a magnesium casing with matte-effect and the shape of the body is angular. However, the rear panel can be customized, and you can choose one of the cool textures including bamboo, denim or kevlar.

Hardware and OS

The Desire 820 is powered by a combination of a quad core 1.5GHz Cortex-A53 and a quad core 1GHz Cortex-A53 CPU, supported by a Qualcomm MSM8939 Snapdragon 615 chipset, and combined with an Adreno 405 GPU. The phone offers 16GB of internal storage, but it supports expansion up to 128GB with a microSD card. Also, it comes preloaded with Android v4.4.2 (KitKat) and runs with 2GB of RAM. On top of the operating system is a skin of HTC Sense UI v6.

The OnePLus One operates on the same OS, but with 3GB of RAM. The processor is a Krait 400 with four cores, clocked at 2.5GHz, which is pretty fast. It’s backed by a Qualcomm MSM8974AC Snapdragon 801 chipset and has an Adreno 330 GPU. The internal storage is either 16 or 64GB, but you’re not allowed to expand the memory, which is a bit of a drawback.

Cameras

Each phone has a 13MP back camera with autofocus, geo tagging, touch focus, HDR and simultaneous HD video and image recording. However, the Desire 820 has single LED flash, while the OnePlus One has dual-LED flash. The front camera on the first phone is amazing, being 8MP and specially chosen to please the selfie lovers. The other phone settles with a 5MP front snapper, which is excellent also.

Batteries

The batteries are both non-removable. Surprisingly, the Desire 820 has a much weaker battery of 2600mAh, while the OnePlus One has a 3100mAh battery.

Other Features

Only the OnePlus One comes with NFC support.
The Desire 820 uses nanoSIM cards, while the OnePlus One supports microSIM cards.
The HTC phone features BoomSound and supports vertical app drawer and BlinkFeed.

Prices

The HTC Desire 820 costs around 430 dollars, while the OnePlus One is priced at 448 dollars.
