Future iPhone Ultra model will capture spatial photos & videos for Apple Vision Pro

Tech giant Apple will reportedly enable a future ‘iPhone Ultra’ model to take spatial photographs and videos for the Vision Pro headset which was introduced earlier this year.

According to a rumour shared by a Weibo account with a proven track record for revealing accurate information about Apple’s plans, a future ‘iPhone Ultra’ model might capture spatial photos and videos that could be displayed in the Vision Pro headset, reports MacRumors.

The iPhone Ultra’s camera configuration released after the launch of the Vision Pro headset, will likely “lead the market to rethink what kind of photos and videos a mobile phone should take.” The information appears to be referring to the capture of spatial images and videos, a special capability of the Vision Pro that employs outward-facing cameras to record immersive 3D content.

According to Apple, spatial videos and photos are designed to have “incredible depth”, allowing users to “see into a moment.” The feature is designed to allow users to relive their memories like never before. “Featuring Apple’s first three-dimensional camera, Apple Vision Pro lets users capture, relive, and immerse themselves in favourite memories with Spatial Audio,” the company had said announcing the Vision Pro headset.

Also, users can view standard pictures and videos from an iPhone or another device on the headset, however, the 3D images and videos can only be captured using the Vision Pro.

The report further mentioned it might be possible that the ‘three-dimensional camera’ could come to the ‌iPhone‌, adding more hardware to the already-present rear camera setup that consists of a main wide camera, telephoto camera, ultra-wide camera, LiDAR scanner, and Adaptive True Tone flash.

It is also important to note that the term ‘iPhone Ultra‌’ has been frequently used across Chinese social media platforms when mentioning a potential ‘Pro Max’ model following rumours that the company was planning to rename the device earlier this year. The change will no longer happen this year, but according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the company might launch a new high-end device called the ‘iPhone Ultra‌’ as soon as next year.
