WWDC Live 2015: Apple finally brings advanced multitasking to the iPad with iOS 9
Apple has just introduced iOS 9 at its WWDC event in San Francisco. The company has introduces a lot of new features to make iPads more functional including a new Split View app mode and SlideOver for added multitasking.
With Split View you can have two apps running alongside each other at the same time. Both apps will be alive and users will also be able to drag and drop stuff between those apps. App windows can be snapped at either 50:50 or 70:30.
Apple has also introduced a SlideOver feature that will let you open a second app without leaving the first. This can be enabled by either swiping from the right that will bring an app, You can then swipe from the top down to interact with that one app.
With iOS 9, Apple is also bringing Picture-in-Picture, which will let video apps run on top of any app. So if you are watching a video and you get a mail, you can open your mail and the video picture would become smaller and just float on top. You can resize the video window and even drag it around.
While Split View will only be available on iPad Air 2, SlideOver will be available on the iPad Air, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 2, and iPad mini 3.
