Google has uveiled the Photos app at I/O 2015. This marks the separation of Google + from Photos, and Director of Photos Anil Sabharwal announces that it comes bundled with social media-friendly features, new editing tools and an improved search functionality. The new app will be available on Android, iOS and web from today.

The app makes it extremely easy for users to share their photos on Facebook and Twitter. It has improved multi-selection through dragging. It gives you the option to back up your photos, upload different size of photos, and even gives you different viewing tile options. One significant change is that there is no ‘Auto Awesome feature’. Instead, there is a new ‘Assistant’ feature which lets you create movies, stories, animation and collages from your photos. In comparison, Auto Awesome limits itself to just creating of movies, GIFs and collages from just 2 to maximum 9 photos. Additionally, Assistant will also help in organizing photos and freeing up storage space automatically.

There are some pimped up editing tools as well, and a search functionality that lets you search for pictures based on specific objects, people and animals. The new photo app, as reported earlier, makes sharing much easier. By the click of a single button you can share stuff on Facebook, Twitter and other social media networks. The new app creates a unique link to share via SMS or websites, which can also be deleted later.

This service will feature many things from the current ‘Photos’ service from Google, such as Auto Awesome, but its integration with Google+ will be gone. This move comes as Google looks to compete with web giants like Instagram, Flickr, Picassa, while also bolstering its already existing product line-up.

The app comes with new editing tools and a search functionality that lets you search for pictures based on specific objects, people and animals. It also makes sharing on social media much easier, and is bringing a new feature called Assistant which lets you create animations, GIFs, videos and collages from photos
