CES 2015 Live: Lenovo announces Broadwell-powered ThinkPad X1 Carbon with Stack
Lenovo’s ThinkPad notebook lineup has been lauded for its thin form factor, high range specification and Adaptive Keyboard. And the Chinese electronics company has now announced new additions to its Windows 8.1-powered ThinkPad X1 Carbon series at the ongoing CES 2015 trade show in Las Vegas. At the sidelines of the notebook announcements, the company also announced ThinkVision X24 monitor and ThinkPad Slack add-ons.
ThinkPad X1 Carbon
The new ThinkPad X1 Carbon comes with the latest Intel’s Broadwell-based fifth-generation processor. The company also highlights the 80 percent faster solid-state drives and a bunch of new productivity software it has added to attract business customers. The notebooks come in two options: 256GB and 512GB PCIe SSD drives and up to 8GB RAM modules.
The Adaptive Keyboard (which is also often referred to as the “contextual keyboard” which would adjust the keys in accordance with the software being used), has however been dropped in favor of traditional keyboard setup. The X1 Carbon comes with the standard Fn keys (all 12 of them) we are very well accustomed with.
The new X1 Carbon also has a better display ranging from FHD (1920×1080 pixels) to 3K (3072×1728 pixels) resolutions. The laptop also packs in Intel’s 3D RealSense camera. The new X1 Carbon will be available for purchase later this month with basic new model starting at $1,249.
ThinkPad Slack and refreshed X, T, L, and E ThinPad lineups
ThinkPad Stack, a series of stackable add-ons that packs in one 1TB of USB 3.0 hard drive and a wireless access point (priced together at $200), a Bluetooth speaker, and a power bank (priced at $50) were also announced at the event.
The company also refreshed its X, T, L, and E series. All the new additions run on Intel Core i processors.
ThinkVision X24
Alongside the notebooks, the company also announced the ThinkVision X24 monitor. It features a 23.8-inch 1080p display. The company promises 178° viewing angle and best color representation and readability in all lighting scenarios. At only 7.8mm thin body, one of the other highlights of the ThinkVision X24 monitor is its extremely thin bezels. It will become available starting in May of 2015 for $249.
