BlackBerry Classic to launch in India on January 15
BlackBerry Classic, which was unveiled last month, is all set to launch in India next week. The company has sent out invites for an event on January 15, where it is likely to launch the BB10 smartphon
The invite reads, “Join us to witness the unveiling of the new BlackBerry 10 [Serious Mobility for Serious Business].” As mentioned above, the event is scheduled for January 15 in New Delhi. As for the device itself, BlackBerry goes back to its roots with the Classic by offering a device with a QWERTY keypad, as well as a shortcut button and a trackpad. As for the looks, it is reminiscent of the Bold 9900, but runs on BlackBerry OS 10.
Speaking of the specifications, the Classic flaunts a 3.5-inch (720×720 pixels) display, and is powered by a 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor paired with 2GB of RAM. The smartphone also includes an 8-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera, 16GB internal storage, microSD card support, and a 2,512mAh battery. On the software front, it runs on BB OS 10, with support for apps from the Google Play Store as well as the Amazon app store.
Over the past year, BlackBerry has shifted its focus to its enterprise offerings and less on hardware. CEO John Chen said as much earlier, when he said, “BlackBerry will launch fewer devices and focus on profitability.” It is also believed to be planning on launching “one unconventional smartphone every year.”
