In a bid to boost business opportunities for local Indian players, Amazon is all set launch its cross-border trade (CBT) service in the country. The Times Of India reports, that this service will enable small sellers in India to reach out to global customers.

“We are committed to enable Indian SMEs to grow profitably in the new digital age and we remain focused on exploring opportunities to provide them fast, easy and convenient access to both domestic as well as global markets,” an Amazon spokesperson told the paper.

The report also states that Amazon India has poached executives from rival companies like eBay and Alibaba, who are experts on CBT. For this purpose, the company has also listed a job opening on LinkedIn.

An analyst also pointed out that through the CBT programme, Amazon will be able to generate significant revenues by charging fees on each transaction from sellers in India.

Currently, Amazon India allows buyers to buy international goods and services, but sellers cannot sell their products to the audience outside the country. eBay India, on the other hand, has the CBT program running on their e-commerce website, where 50,000 Indian sellers sell 15,000 items like gems, jewellery, ethnic clothing and home decor internationally.
