The iPhone 12 series’ cumulative global sales crossed the 100 million units mark in April 2021, according to Counterpoint Research’s mobile handset Market Pulse Service. The series was able to achieve this feat in the seventh month after its launch, which is two months earlier than the iPhone 11 series and almost the same as the iPhone 6 series that helped Apple achieve its first volume super-cycle at the cusp of 4G transition. With the iPhone 12 series, Apple has achieved another volume super-cycle after six generations of iPhones and at the cusp of 5G transition.
The fact the iPhone 12 crossed this threshold earlier than the iPhone 11 is all the more impressive considering the iPhone 12 did not come out until October, whereas the 11 was released in September.
The report says that demand for 5G and OLED screens has attracted customers and that Apple’s average selling price of the iPhone is at an all-time high. The report claims that Apple’s higher-end iPhone 12 Pro is preferred by consumers and that the iPhone 12 Pro Max accounts for some 29% of all sales, more than the 11 Pro Max did.
The iPhone 12 is certainly one of the best iPhones in recent memory, yet only has a few months left before it is replaced by the iPhone 13, expected to be unveiled by the company in September. It will reportedly feature a 120Hz display, under-display Touch ID, and a new A15 chip.
