Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 could eat the market share of other flipping foldable phones

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 marketing posters have leaked showing us the foldable phone’s new design. This is close to what the earlier Z Flip 5 renders suggested and is also comparable to Moto Razr 40 Ultra and other folding phones launched in 2023. Here’s what we mean.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 design

Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Galaxy Z Fold 5 at the Galaxy Unpacked 2023 event in Seoul soon. The rumoured date is July 26. The company is yet to confirm this or anything about the upcoming foldables, but thanks to leaks and rumours, we have a fair idea of what to expect. The latest leak of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 gives us a bit more confidence in the design enhancements.

First and foremost, our eyes are likely to notice the bigger cover screen. That’s a trend one of Samsung’s competitors has also adopted. Yes, we are talking about the Moto Razr 40 Ultra. While Motorola decided to use the real estate around the camera rings, Samsung seems to have left that space. This gives the cover display a look similar to iOS/Windows file icon.

The camera rings are placed horizontally. This is flanked by the flashlight module.

Some of the expected use cases so far are:

Use the cover screen as a viewfinder for the rear camera. This lets you take selfies, and groupies with the higher-quality main cameras. Also, people who are your subjects can see themselves and adjust them in the frame before you click.

The outer display could come with widgets for music playback controls, among other apps and features. Speaking of which, popular Google apps are being optimized to run on this canvas.

Let’s see what else Samsung has in store for us once it finally launches the new Flip.
