Vivo X Fold shows up in the wild, launch imminent
Vivo has reportedly been developing a foldable smartphone, which will go up against the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold, Oppo Find N and more. While these have all stayed as a rumour, a new leak suggests that the company is ready to enter the foldable smartphone market soon with its Vivo X Fold. The leak also provides us with our first look at the upcoming device.
Live images of the Vivo X Fold were posted on the Chinese social media platform Weibo. The images showcased the foldable smartphone being used in a Chinese subway station with a thick protective case, which is meant to hide the identity of the device before it is launched for the masses.
From the looks of it, the Vivo X Fold features a square-shaped inward folding display, with no apparent crease in the middle unlike the Galaxy Z Fold 3. According to earlier reports, the no crease design is due to the company’s complex hinge mechanism, which also allows for gapless folding of the display. It is also being said that the folding display utilises Samsung’s Ultra Thin Glass (UTG) tech instead of a plastic display like the Motorola Razr.
Earlier leaks suggest that the upcoming device will sport an 8-inch quad HD+ folding display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It will be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset paired with an Adreno 730 GPU. The device will be backed by a 4,600mAh battery with support for 80W fast charging support and 50W fast wireless charging support.
In a previous report, we got to see the schematics of the upcoming smartphone, which showcased the cover display with a curved edge and a centre aligned hole-punch camera. The back features a circular quad camera module placed inside a rectangle block. It also showcased an unknown key, a volume rocker, and a power button. The report by Digital Chat Station stated that the device will sport a 6.5 inch full HD+ OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate at the front.
