Micromax announces Android 5.0 Lollipop update schedule for Canvas series, meanwhile Google’s Android One…
While Google’s Android One users in India still await the Lollipop update, other companies have started rolling out the update. Micromax today announced that its Canvas Xpress A99 would be the first smartphone to get the update, followed by other Canvas smartphones.
Micromax had launched the Canvas Xpress back in December last year, priced at Rs 6,999. As far as specifications are concerned, the smartphone features a 4.5-inch FWVGA (854×480 pixels) display, 1.3GHz quad-core processor paired with 1GB of RAM.
The smartphone also features a 5-megapixel rear camera, VGA front-facing camera, expandable memory, and a 1,950mAh battery. Connectivity options include dual-SIM card slots, 3G support, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.
The smartphone launched with Android 4.4.2 KitKat out-of-the-box, but will soon be updated to 5.0 Lollipop. The Indian smartphone vendor has started rolling out the OTA update. If you haven’t got the notification, you can head over to Settings -> About Phone -> Software Update.
As mentioned above, Android One users in India are still awaiting the Lollipop update. Google had promised that the smartphones would be one of the first to get the updates. But the company has failed to stick to its promise. The company however recently announced that the update will be released in the next “few weeks.”
Apart from the lack of software updates, the Android One smartphones have suffered from tough competition from the likes of Motorola and Xiaomi. Buyers can now choose from smartphones in the same price range that also boast LTE capability.
