Xiaomi has an event on January 15 where it is expected to launch at least one flagship handset. Ahead of the event, alleged images of the Mi 5 smartphone have surfaced on the web along with its AnTuTu 4 score, giving weight to the possibility of its launch later this week. The images also suggest some new specification.
As per the listed info, the Xiaomi Mi 5 will have a Snapdragon 801 processor instead of the supposed Snapdragon 805 or Snapdragon 810 chipsets. The RAM is also said to be 2GB instead of the rumored 3GB. While it is kind of a downer as the processor is more than one-year old and RAM too isn’t impressive for a 2015 flagship handset, it aligns well with Chinese smartphone manufacturer’s product strategy, which is to wait for price of the components to go down helping it make relatively high-end but affordable smartphones.

The other interesting feature that the leaked images reveal is the AnTuTu benchmarking score, according to which, the Xiaomi Mi 5 has 46,866 score, which is higher than the Moto X (2014), Galaxy Note 4 and several other handsets. This is a surprising feat for the Mi 5 since it doesn’t have as impressive specifications.

From what we know so far, the Mi 5 will sport a QHD screen ranging between 5.2- and 5.5-inches. On the camera front, it was believed to carry a 20-megapixel camera until a recent report suggested 13-megapixel sensor instead. The company could also use the event to launch the Redmi Note 2 handset.
