Delhi elections: AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal requests BJP’s Kiran Bedi to unblock him on Twitter
The countdown to the Delhi re-elections have begun, and the top contenders are Aam Aadmi Party’s Arvind Kejriwal and BJP’s new entrant Kiran Bedi. The campaigns expectedly include pot shots and finger-pointing, but in a rather new turn of events, Kejriwal has taken to Twitter to hit a sneaky blow at his opponent. Earlier, after Bedi left AAP, she blocked Kejriwal for unexplained reasons and now the AAP leader is requesting her to unblock him.
Twitter has been fodder for many political embroils, and this move by Kejriwal further testifies the impact of conversations on the micro blogging site. Talking to the media, Kejriwal confirms that Bedi had indeed blocked him on Twitter, and that now that she is his opponent, she should unblock him. He even challenged her for an open debate. Bedi replied saying that ‘she will debate him on the floor of the house’. Taking this further, Kejriwal even took to Twitter to request Bedi to unblock him.
.@thekiranbedi Kiranji, i used to follow u on twitter. Now, u have blocked me on twitter. Kindly unblock me.

Bedi has chosen to not respond to his request and is going about her business. Her latest tweet takes indirect jabs at Kejriwal saying that it’s now ‘time for new kind of politics… from perennial accusations to constructive analysis. Not for power or position but largest good & service’.

When it comes to Twitter popularity, Bedi wins the war with 3.7 million followers, while Kejriwal has 3.3 million followers. Twitter has come a long way in India in the last year itself. Politicians have realised the revolution Twitter can drive. PM Narendra Modi’s entire campaign was social media driven, with his official handle normally conveying all his opinions and comments. Modi truly drove Twitter to its success, with many other politicians like Digvijaya Singh, Arvind Kejriwal, Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitely now being extremely active on Twitter. Notably, Modi’s victory tweet was the most retweeted ever in Twitter India’s history.
Many official exclusive announcements are also being conveyed through Twitter. As Twitter’s Year in Review rightly explains – the Indian elections, Rajnikanth joining the site, Deepika Padukone’s cleavage reportage and many more were the defining moments in the site’s history, and eventually made headlines in all newspapers. And now, with Delhi re-elections so close, Twitter conversations have just begun. For what it’s worth, Bedi should just unblock him.
