YouTube says it’s incapable of counting PSY’s Gangnam Style views any further
Everyone’s been talking about breaking the Internet recently. While that endeavour is still in the works, PSY has quietly been breaking his own records, and now has gone ahead and also broken YouTube. The video platform has announced that PSY’s Gangnam Style video has garnered so many hits, that their counting code has gone cuckoo.
The video, released in July 2012, became a viral sensation across the globe. His pony-like dance step is known by people of all ages. And now, it has surpassed even YouTube’s expectation and counting integer. YouTube’s highest number counting is 2,147,483,647 (32-bit integer), and the tech company says it never anticipated any video to get more hits than this on their video platform.
“We never thought a video would be watched in numbers greater than a 32-bit integer (=2,147,483,647 views), but that was before we met PSY. “Gangnam Style” has been viewed so many times we have to upgrade!” YouTube said in a Google + post,
In the meantime, if you view the Gangnam Style video currently, and hover your mouse around the number count, the numbers just shuffle themselves making you feel like you just hit jackpot in a casino slot machine.
Before surpassing YouTube’s maths algorithm, Gangnam Style also became the first video to pass 2 billion views in May.
