YouTube is bringing a new animated-GIF making tool

Looks like YouTube is rolling out its Christmas goodies early this year. After introducing the offline mode in India, YouTube now looks set to introduce another interesting feature — animated GIFs. With this, you can make six-second GIFs using a visual timestamp or slider.

YouTube has been testing it, and a few channels already have the feature embedded on them. Kickstarter builder Andy Baio noticed this feature first on the PBS Idea Channel. The GIF button is located under the ‘Share option’ right next to the ‘Email’ button. The feature is super easy to use, and as mentioned above, the maximum length of the GIF can only be six seconds.

YouTube has not officially announced this feature, and we do not know when it will go mainstream on the video-sharing platform either. In the meantime however, you can head over to the Good Mythical Morning or PBS Idea Channel to check out how the animated GIF feature works. It’s pretty neat!

As mentioned above, YouTube introduced an offline mode in India for its mobile apps. As the name suggests, users will be able to download a video and watch it without a data connection. The videos will be available for 48 hours, and the entire initiative is ad-supported.
