Danger of Siri driving: Apple’s response
Apple has taken very seriously the results of the study conducted by the University of Utah for the American Automobile Association. His response to criticism of Siri (calling it too distracting for the driver solution) was published in the Wall Street Journal via a statement. In it, Apple says first that the study fails to test Siri Eyes Free, an evolution of voice recognition system for the car. Similarly, CarPlay was not mentioned in the study.
Apple also said that several market models (including Opel) incorporate the use of Siri, via a button on the steering wheel for activating the function, directly on the phone. Thus it is not necessary to touch or look at the iPhone using Siri.
Siri voice or music: which is the most dangerous?
However, Apple does not return to that voice recognition, whatever its origin, may cause cognitive distractions, because the driver then turns his thoughts to the wizard. But this debate is also a question of proportion. Is this distraction more dangerous than others already admitted. For listening to music or discussion with a passenger are also distracting behavior and there is no question of banning them.
