After Bendgate and Hairgate, users now complain of iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus displays getting easily scratched
Apple cannot seem to catch a breath this year. After the exhausting Bendgate controversy, then Hairgate and the iOS 8 roll out fail, now Apple users are miffed over another glitch. iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users are complaining that the phone screens are susceptible to easy scratches, a phenomenon that was not noticed in the earlier iPhones.First reported by AppleInsider, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users have taken the matter to Apple’s Support Community forum where they report issues with the handset’s display, which they claim is more prone to scratching than previous iPhone models. The pilot complaint was written on September 23 by a username jake.underwood26 reporting scratches near the display’s corners even though he took good care of his iPhone. Many other similar responses followed, and some even compared the iPhone 6 to past iPhone models, noting previous generations were not as prone to surface scratches even after years of use.
The report speculates that the scratching problem might be because the latest generation iPhone is the first to use a curved display glass with no bezel ‘lip’ to protect against scrapes. Before the release of the iPhones, the company was rumored to put in sapphire displays for its phone. However, the fallout with GTA Technologies, the company responsible for the sapphire supply, delayed that scenario indefinitely.
This is not the first time the iPhone has had to deal with scratch-related controversy. Back in 2012, Apple had to deal with “Scuffgate,” wherein iPhone 5 buyers reported that their handsets came scuffed and scratched out of the box.
