Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg to visit India on October 9: Report
Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg is reportedly planning on visiting India next week, and he will be meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Economic Times reports. Zuckerberg will be the third high-profile visitor to India, after Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella visited India in the last few days.
Zuckerberg will be in India on October 9 and 10, and will first meet Narendra Modi. The publication claims that the Indian government will partner Facebook in its forthcoming initiative — Swachh Bharat. The initiative, which will be flagged off tomorrow, is set to raise awareness and promote nation-wide cleanliness. The government will be extensively using the social media platform to raise awareness about the initiative.
Additionally, Zuckerberg will also be speaking at Internet.org’s Content and Usability Summit in Delhi. Internet.org, launched last year, is Zuckerberg’s pet project that aims at bringing Internet access to more than two-thirds of the world, which is not yet online. Zuckerberg will be the second Facebook executive to visit India in recent times. In July, Facebook’s Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg too visited the country and met the Prime Minister.
Amazon’s Jeff Bezos arrived in India over the weekend, and carried out a road show on a supply truck at the premises of a shopping mall in Bangalore flashing a big $2-billion cheque. Microsoft’s Satya Nadella, on the other hand, was present at Microsoft’s event in Delhi yesterday. He highlighted Microsoft’s strategic journey towards a mobile-first and cloud-first world. Last month, Android chief Sundar Pichai too visited India to launch Google’s Android One initiative.
