Apple is all set to host its annual fall event — Far Out — on September. At the event, the company is expected to announce major upgrades to its Apple Watch series. As per reports, Apple, in addition to launching an upgrade to the Apple Watch 7, that is, the Apple Watch Series 8, is also tipped to launch a more ‘rugged’ version of its smartwatch dubbed as the Apple Watch Pro at its upcoming event. Now reports have hinted towards the company launching a low-budget Apple Watch at the Far Out event alongside the Apple Watch 8 and the Apple Watch Pro.
Apple, back in 2020, launched the Apple Watch SE at a price of Rs 29,900. Now, word is that the company will launch an upgrade to its original Apple Watch SE at its upcoming event on September 7.
According to noted Apple tipster Mark Gurman, while Apple’s upcoming budget smartwatch will look like the original Apple Watch SE, it will come with an upgraded chipset. In his weekly Power On newsletter, Gurman said that the Apple Watch SE 2 will be powered by the company’s S8 chipset. This chipset will also be powering the company’s Apple Watch Series 8 and the Apple Watch Pro models.
However, the Apple Watch SE 2 is likely to miss out on some of the other features such as a body-temperature sensor and a women’s health features related to fertility that will be available on the Apple Watch 8 Series and the Apple Watch Pro.
Talking about the pricing, the tipster, in a tweet wrote that Apple is likely to offer the Apple Watch SE 2 at the same price as the Apple Watch SE and then lower the price of the original Apple Watch SE in a bid to offer a more diverse portfolio of wearables.
“Another possibility is Apple keeps the SE price for the SE 2 and then retains the original Watch SE at a lower price. But given the similarities that seems unlikely. It would also be odd if Apple doesn’t discontinue the regular iPhone 13 given the similarities to the regular 14,” he wrote in a tweet.
It is worth noting that this is not the first time that reports have hinted towards the possibility of the company launching an Apple Watch SE successor. Last year, reports the possibility of launching a second-gen Apple Watch SE that would retain the S8 chipset. But now reports hint towards the smartwatch getting slightly different specifications.
