Apple this week announced iOS 16 at WWDC 2022, bringing with it some big new updates to Apple Maps and a rollout of its new maps to 11 new countries.
From Apple:
Apple Maps is introducing multistop routing, so users can plan up to 15 stops in advance and automatically sync routes from Mac to iPhone when they’re ready to go. Maps is also bringing transit updates to users, making it easy for riders to view how much their journey will cost, add transit cards to Wallet, see low balances, and replenish transit cards, all without leaving Maps.
Multi-stop routing will allow users to add multiple stops to driving routes, and these can be planned in advance on a Mac before syncing with your iPhone.
Transit cards will let users add certain cards to their Wallet, and will alert users to a low balance as well as let them replenish their card without leaving maps. New transit fares can also reveal how much you can expect to pay on your journey if you’re using public transport. Apple has also added a new starting point detection feature for using VoiceOver in Maps, which means sound and haptic feedback will alert users when they arrive at the starting point for walking directions in Maps.
Apple is also expanding its new maps to 11 new countries:
Belgium
France
Israel
Liechtenstein
Luxembourg
Monaco
Netherlands
New Zealand
Palestinian Territories
Saudi Arabia
Switzerland
This is one of many updates coming to iOS 16 and Apple’s best iPhones later this year, with major improvements also added to the Lock Screen, notifications, Safari, and Mail.
The developer beta of iOS 16 is already available to download, and a public beta should go live next month.
