Apple TV 4K launched: Supports HDR, here are specifications and features
At the Apple keynote event today, after the Apple Watch 3, the company also unveiled the new Apple TV 4K. As the name suggests, the TV brings support for 4K resolution and HDR. In the product demo, the TV’s output looked promising. It shows sharper details and richer colors.
At the heart of the Apple TV is an A10X fusion chip, the same as the iPad Pro. It runs the latest version of TV OS. For content, Apple says its has been using with the largest production houses in the world, to bring HDR and 4K content at the same price as HD. Apple will upgrade content for uses to HDR, free of cost.
Apple also announced that it will team up with Netflix and Amazon Prime Video for 4K HDR original content on iTunes.
Apple has redesigned the UI a bit with the new TV OS with a dedicated sports tab. For instance in the sports section, users can see real time score next to the preview of a game’s videos.
The Apple TV 4K is priced at $179, and will be open for booking starting September 15, and will go on sale a week later.
As for India, Apple TV 4K starts at Rs 15,900 for 32GB or Rs 17,900 for 64GB, joining Apple TV (4th generation) 32GB at Rs 12,900, available through select Apple Authorised Resellers. Customers will be able to order both Apple TV 4K models beginning Friday, September 15, with availability beginning Friday, September 22 in the US and 21 additional countries and regions, and worldwide soon after.
