Samsung Galaxy S6 with QHD display, Exynos 7420 octa-core SoC, 16-megapixel camera launched at MWC 2015
Samsung has been busy generating the buzz around the launch of the Galaxy S6 with its “The Next Galaxy” campaign. After hinting at several features of the flagship, the South Korean giant has today taken the wraps off the Galaxy S6 at MWC.
Last year, a report claimed that Samsung was designing the Galaxy S6 from scratch as a part of “Project Zero.” The flagship looks unlike any of the previous Samsung smartphones, boasting a body made out of Gorilla Glass 4 and metal. The look is consistent with the numerous photo leaks we have come across. Look closely, and the likes of the curved edges and the placement of the speaker grille and microUSB post seem inspired from the iPhone 6.
The specifications too are in line with the leaks, and in essence, you get a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED QHD (2560×1440 pixels) display with a pixel density of 577ppi. Samsung was rumored to have been facing issues with the Snapdragon 810 chipset, and hence the company has opted for its own Exynos 7420 octa-core (2.1GHz quad-core+1.5GHz quad-core) chipset paired with 3G of RAM. The processor, Samsung says, is more powerful than Qualcomm’s processor.
On the photography front, the smartphone features a 16-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization, supplemented with a 5-megapixel camera at the front. Also included are 32/64/128GB of internal storage, and a non-removable 2,550mAh battery with Ultra Power Saving Mode and wireless charging capabilities. Samsung also claims that the battery supports fast-charging, and charging it for just 10 minutes is enough for two hours of HD video playback, and charging it for 30 minutes will take the battery from empty all the way to 50 percent.
The smartphone also comes with the heart rate monitor, touch fingerprint sensor (no more swiping), and connectivity options include LTE support, NFC, IR Blaster, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, and on the software front, it runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop out-of-the-box, wrapped under an overhauled TouchWiz UI.
