Apple Watch could be released as early as March: Report
In September at the unveiling of the Apple Watch, CEO Tim Cook said that the company plans on launching the wearable device in “early 2015.” Now we are getting some specifics of the launch timeframe. According to a 9to5Mac report, the Cupertino-giant could be launching the Apple Watch as early as March.
The launch time frame is consistent with something Senior Vice President of Retail Angela Ahrendts had told employees few months ago. In a video message to retail employees, she had said that the smartwatch will be launched after the Chinese New Year (February 19). The latest report further notes that the company will be inviting representatives from its major US retail stores in February to train them on how to describe the Watch and its features to customers.
While the report stresses March as the launch time frame for Watch, there is always a possibility of delays due to production or software development issues. The company is said to be currently working on optimizing the battery life, as well as its inductive charging mechanism.
The company will be selling three variants of the Watch — Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport, and Apple Watch Edition. While it has revealed that the most basic version of Apple Watch will be priced at $349, it hasn’t offered specific pricing information for the rest of the versions. Recent leaks however claim that the stainless steel variant could be priced around $500, while the gold variant will be priced between $4,000 and $5,000.
