It’s not often that Dolby makes a significant update to its audio and video formats. The company typically sets a bar it wants to last for years, if not decades, giving plenty of wiggle room for artists, studios, and device makers. Dolby Atmos, for example, has been available for home theater systems since 2014, yet in 2026, even the richest home theater enthusiast probably isn’t complaining about its limitations.
