The Hollywood Reporter headline and the trends are clear: “IMAX Hits Record $1.28 Billion Global Box Office for 2025 as Cinemas Struggle.” To put that into perspective, year-over-year, that’s a 40% increase, surpassing a previous record set in 2019 for 13% growth. Cinemas are still struggling, though, because so many people have large TVs at home, making them less motivated to go to the movies for mediocre releases.
