Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Recalled Over Faulty Fuel Level Indicator; Over 10,000 Units Affected

Following Maruti’s announcement of a recall for the Grand Vitara, Toyota India has issued a recall for its sister car, the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, over the same faulty fuel level indicator. In Toyota’s case, the recall affects 11,529 units manufactured in the same December 2024 to April 2025 window. Toyota says that the recall only affects models fitted with the analogue instrument cluster with select variants of the SUV – such as the strong hybrid – getting a digital instrument cluster.

Recall affects over 11,000 units of the SUV.

As with the Grand Vitara, Toyota says that ‘in certain conditions, the fuel gauge may not indicate the correct fuel level in the fuel tank.’ The company added that this could lead to cases where the low fuel indicator warning could fail to illuminate, thus leading to the risk of the vehicle stalling due to the lack of fuel.

As with all voluntary recalls, Toyota will directly reach out to affected customers via its network of dealers and service centres, with the inspection and part replacement to be carried out free of cost.

The Urban Cruiser Hyryder shares its platform, powertrains and tech with the Maruti Grand Vitara, with both SUVs offered with petrol, CNG and strong hybrid powertrain options. The former two feature a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine under the hood, while the latter pairs a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an on-board battery and electric motor.

The petrol variants are offered with manual and automatic gearbox options as well as optional AWD in the top spec. The CNG variants are manual only, while the strong-hybrid is offered solely with a CVT.
