Yamaha XSR155 Launched In India: Everything You Need To Know

Yamaha has finally launched the XSR155 in India, the neo-retro roadster based on the Yamaha R15 and Yamaha MT-15, at Rs. 1.50 lakh (Ex-showroom). A model which has been much awaited and the topic of a lot of chatter and discussion for years, the Yamaha XSR155 will offer a neo-retro flavour to enthusiasts based on the proven platform that underpins the R15, MT-15 and Aerox 155.

Design & Features

The Yamaha XSR155 is based on Yamaha’s XSR pedigree, a line of neo retro “sport heritage” models in the global line-up which includes the XSR900, XSR700, XSR155 and XSR125. First introduced in 2016 with the XSR900, Yamaha’s neo-retro family blends classic styling with modern technology, partly in response to the growing trend of custom and restored classic motorcycles.

The XSR155 follows that same design language, with a classic round LED headlight and taillight and 10-litre teardrop-shaped fuel tank. The bike also adds a flat, single-piece ribbed seat to underscore its retro-inspired aesthetics. On the features list, there’s dual-channel ABS and traction control, however, the display unit is a circular LCD screen, although it offers Bluetooth connectivity via the Y-Connect app.

The XSR155 is offered in four different colour options – Metallic Grey, Vivid Red, Greyish Green Metallic and Metallic Blue, along with two distinct accessory packages – Café Racer and Scrambler.

Engine Specifications

Powering the XSR155 is the familiar 155 cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, SOHC, 4-valve engine which makes around 18 bhp at 10,000 rpm and 14.2 Nm at 7,500 rpm. The engine is paired with a 6-speed transmission along with an assist and slipper clutch. With variable valve actuation technology, the engine offers a wide range of torque at different engine rpms, and should offer similar performance and feel as the R15 and the MT-15.

Like its siblings, the XSR155 is built around a perimeter frame (called the Deltabox frame by Yamaha), aluminium swingarm, 37 mm upside down front fork and a linked type rear monoshock. Braking duties are handled by single discs on both wheels with standard dual-channel ABS.

Ergonomics & Dimensions

The upright riding stance promises to be comfortable for everyday use. However, the 810 mm seat height may not be suitable for riders of shorter heights. The 10-litre fuel tank will have limitations, but what will need to be given some thought is the 120 mm ground clearance, considering the kind of pothole-infested roads and broken surfaces most prospective customers will encounter here in India.

Price & Value

The Yamaha XSR155 has been priced at Rs. 1,49,990 (Ex-showroom) across all four colour options. In the 150 cc segment, the XSR155 has no direct rival, however, its neo-retro styling, and performance figures positions the XSR155 against similar styled modern-classic motorcycles like the TVS Ronin and the Royal Enfield Hunter 350.
