Apple just spent over a billion dollars to boost its satellite services efforts
Satellite connectivity first debuted on the iPhone in 2022 with the launch of the iPhone 14 series. The feature lets users connect their iPhone to a satellite to send a message to emergency services if they don’t have cellular coverage. With iOS 18, Apple expanded satellite services to include the ability to message family or friends.
