Netflix hacks: How to transfer your profile to a new account
Netflix recently shared a detailed plan as to how it plans to prevent users from sharing their account password outside of their household. In a support page, the company said that it will ask users to verify devices outside their household if it detects that they sign into an account or use an account frequently. Furthermore, the company said that “as long as the device being used to watch Netflix is using the internet connection in the primary account owner’s household, it will not require verification.”
However, even before the company shared its detailed plan, it had introduced a feature called Profile Transfer that will enable users to spin off their profiles into a separate account while preserving all of their data including their watchlist, their likes and their dislikes. In essence, the feature gave users a way to keep their Netflix history before the primary account holder cuts their access in a bid to avoid paying additional money.
If you are using a friend’s Netflix account and you want to spin off your profile into a separate account, here’s what you need to do:
How to use Netflix’s Profile Transfer feature
Step 1: Open Netflix in a web browser and sign into the account that has the profile you want to start a new account with.
Step 2: Now, click on your profile picture in the top right corner and select the ‘Transfer Profile’ option in the dropdown menu.
Step 3: Alternatively, you can Visit the Account page, head over to the ‘Profile & Parental Controls’ section and then tap the ‘Transfer this Profile’ option.
Step 4: Select the profile you want to start a new account with in the Profiles and Parental Controls section.
Step 5: Now select the ‘Transfer link’ option in the Transfer Profile section.
Step 6: Next, enter the email address and password you would like to use for your new account. Then, click the Next button at the bottom.
Step 7: Now, select the Netflix subscription plan that you want to opt for based on your requirements.
You can pick from four plan options — Mobile plan that costs Rs 149 per month, Basic plan that costs Rs 199 per month, Standard plan that costs Rs 499 per month and Premium plan that costs Rs 649 per month.
Step 8: Now enter your card details to start a new membership for your new Netflix account and then click on the Start Membership option.
Once the company is done transferring your profile data, your new Netflix account will be ready for use.
