Apple has reportedly delayed its 27-inch external display with mini-LED backlighting. Earlier, the display was expected to launch in the first quarter of this year.

Display industry analyst Ross Young told MacRumours that he has not seen any signs that the display is entering mass production, which indicates that the launch is not about to happen anytime soon. It is worth noting that the launch date of the display has been postponed a number of times in the past. Young first reported that the iPhone-maker would launch its 27-inch display around June 2022. Shortly after, the analyst tipped an October 2022 launch date for the display. More recently, he predicted that the company would launch the 27-inch monitor in first quarter of 2023. Now, the analyst has updated his prediction again, only this time, he hasn’t given a refreshed timeline of launch.

Apple’s 27-inch display with mini-LEDs expected specifications

As far as details are concerned, Apple’s upcoming 27-inch display is pegged to be the next-generation version of the Studio Display. However, as per some reports it might also be a new model designed between the Studio Display and the higher-end Pro Display XDR.

Coming to the specifications, the rumoured 27-inch display is expected to come with a mini-LED panel that is unlike the LCD panel used by the company’s Studio Display. It’s also expected to feature support for the company’s ProMotion technology, which means it will support more dynamic screen refresh rate of 120Hz or higher.

Furthermore, reports say that the company’s upcoming display could come with a 7K resolution with a pixel density of 245 ppi, which is higher than the pixel density of 218 ppi offered by the company’s Pro Display XDR that comes with 32-inch display and a 6K resolution. If the reports are true, the upcoming 27-inch display could pack a better 7K resolution screen in a smaller 27-inch body.

At the moment, Apple offers Apple Studio that comes with a 27-inch display with a 5K resolution. It starts at Rs 159,900 for the standard glass variant. The Pro Display XDR, on the other hand, comes with a 32-inch display with a 6K resolution and it starts at Rs 4,49,900 in India. It is difficult to understand where this display would fit in Apple’s line-up given that with these specifications it is likely to be a closer cousin of the Pro Display yet be far pricier than that.
