Microsoft adds Dall-E 2 AI image generation to Bing, Edge, and its new Designer web app: Heres how they work
Microsoft could make Bing and Edge more interesting to use with this new announcement it made at the Surface 2022 event. The company is introducing AI-driven text-to-image generation facility to not only its new Canva-like Designer app but also to its browser — Edge and search engine — Bing. It has shaken hands with Elon Musk’s Open AI company, whose Dall E 2 AI language model is being used for this purpose.
Well, let’s now see how they work, starting with the Designer.
Microsoft Designer: What is it and how to sign up for it
The Designer web app looks similar to Canva in the interface but what sets it apart is the Dall E 2 integration.
There are built-in templates, backgrounds, and elements, but you can also search a text-based query (in form of a sentence or phrase) and prompt the AI to come up with results. Choose these AI-generated designs as backgrounds for posters, postcards, presentations, and invitation cards. You will be able to share them socially too.
Designer is free for a limited period and you can start signing up for it from today onwards. However, there’s a waiting period before you could try them out.
For now, register with your email ID and you will be added to a waiting list. Once it’s ready to be accessible you will be notified over mail. Also, soon whence it’s publicly available, it will come as part of Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscriptions even though some of the functions will be free to use by non-subscribers.
Microsoft Image Creator: What is it and how to sign up for it
Microsoft Image Creator also uses Dall E 2 text-to-image generation. However, it will be baked into the Bing Images tab or you could access it from bing.com/create as well as an Image Creator icon present in the sidebar menu in Edge browser. At the moment, Image Creator isn’t available and even when it does come out, it will be rolled out in select markets only.
Of course, if and when you get to use it, you will have to agree to certain terms and conditions around legal and ethical concerns. The only advice would be to not use the service for illicit purposes.
