Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 3 is a 17.3-inch laptop with secondary 8-inch internal display

Here’s something you don’t see every day: a laptop with two displays.

Lenovo’s ThinkBook Plus Gen 3 is certainly an unconventional idea: a 17.3-inch laptop in the main, complete with a secondary 8-inch internal display to the right side of the keyboard.

It also marks the end of Lenovo’s previous ThinkBook idea: the Plus Gen 2 i from 2020 featured a secondary E Ink screen in place of an exterior lid, the idea being you could pick up from one project in notepad-like from, the bring that into the more conventional laptop space once opening the product.

Clearly the E Ink display has shown its limitations – Lenovo has experimented with the idea before, replacing the Yoga Book 2’s keyboard with one – and we think the Gen 3 ThinkBook is a much more logical idea for quickly flicking between ideas. That 8-inch tablet is a touchscreen and also accepts stylus input, so it’ll be useful for menial tasks, such as calculator inputs or spreadsheet double-up; or more creative ventures, such as drawing or annotating documents.

As you can see from the image up top, the ThinkBook Plus Gen 3 is an elongated laptop. That’s because it’s 17.3-inch panel is a 21:10 aspect ratio. It’s also complete with 3072 x 1440 pixels of resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate – so has the credentials to cater for creatives, not just business folk.

Whether typing away to a more left-aligned keyboard would feel peculiar, however, isn’t something we’ve been able to test out in person. But with the ThinkBook Plus Gen 3 scheduled to be at CES 2022, we’ll be sure to take a look given the opportunity.

The Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 3 will be available from May 2022, with a starting price of $1399.
