What you need to know

Apple TV+ has just a 3% share of the streaming market in the United States according to new numbers.
Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+ are the three most popular services.

Even Peacock has more of the market.

As Apple TV+ nears its second anniversary, new streaming market share numbers shared by JustWatch have it lagging well behind the likes of Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+. According to JustWatch’s numbers, Apple TV+ has just a 3% market share.

The numbers collated by JustWatch have Netflix sitting pretty at the top of the pile with 28% market in Q2 2021. Amazon Prime Video is in second spot with 20% while Disney+ manages 14%. From there it’s all downhill, with Apple TV+ and its 3% even outmuscled by Peacock — and Peacock’s 4% covers just those that pay for its Premium service.

While Apple TV+ has been able to pick up some wildly popular TV shows with the likes of Ted Lasso very much among the awards, it’s still a service that seems to be struggling to find a footing in a world where the big three more than dominate. While Disney+ is a relative newcomer to the market, the sheer size of its catalog and the impressive properties it has means it was always going to be popular.

Today’s news comes as Apple shares the trailer for the second season of See, a show that failed to live up to the hype in its first go around. The trailer for season two does look great though, and Apple will be hoping it can drive more subscribers to the platform.
