The Alienware X15 launched with Intel H-series CPUs and RTX 30-series graphics

Alienware’s laptops are known for their hardcore focus on gaming and performance. As such, the company usually steers clear of the thin-and-light category where performance is usually compromised in order to save weight and reduce thickness. However, it looks like things are now changing with the announcement of the Alienware X15.

We will be seeing two configurations of the X15, both of which are just 15.9mm thick. That’s thin by Alienware’s standard as pretty much all the Alienware laptops so far measure around 20mm in thickness. The Alienware m15, for instance, measures 20.1mm.

Despite the relatively thin build, it seems like the laptop will still be a very capable machine. The laptop can be configured with up to an IntelCore i9-11900H processor, an RTX 3080 GPU configured with 110W max graphics power, up to 32GB RAM, and a 2TB NVMe M.2 SSD with a maximum of 4TB of dual storage supported via RAID 0.

For display, you can either configure it to come with a 15.6-inch FHD panel with a 165Hz refresh rate, 3ms response time, and up to 300 nits of brightness, or go all in and get a 400-nit QHD G-Sync panel with a 240Hz refresh rate, 2ms response time, and 99% coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut.

The Alienware X15 packs an 87Whr battery and it can weigh up to 2.3Kgs depending on the specs. That’s not too bad for an Alienware machine, and it’s good to see the company putting in efforts to make a thin gaming laptop. We just hope Alienware’s Quad Fan and the new “Element 31 thermal interface material” will help keep the thermals in check.

Alienware X17

If you don’t mind using a thicker laptop, then there’s Alienware x17 for you. You get a 17.3-inch screen that can be configured to have a 500-nit 4K display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 4ms response time. For the processor, you can go up to an Intel Core i9-11900HK with up to 64GB of XMP RAM clocked at 3,466MHz.

GPU options with this laptop can be configured to have higher max graphics power due to the bigger chassis. For instance, even an RTX 3060 on this laptop can have 130W max graphics power instead of 90W on the X15 laptop. You can configure the X17 with an RTX 3080 with 16GB VRAM and 165W max graphics power at a boost clock speed of 1,710MHz.

Both laptops will have a 720p Windows Hello compatible webcam and Alienware’s X-series keyboard with per-key RGB lighting. The X17 can be purchased with Alienware’s Cherry MX ultra-low-profile mechanical switches. Last, but not least, both machines will be available in the “Lunar Light” colorway which looks pretty neat from what we have seen so far.

Pricing & Availability

Alienware has launched both laptops in the US and they are now available to buy. The Alienware X15 starts at $1,999 for the base model, which roughly translates to about Rs 1.46 lakh. The Alienware X17 will cost you $2,099 for the base variant which is about Rs 1.58 lakhs. The prices will, of course, go up from there depending on the configuration. As of now, there’s no word about the availability of these laptops in the Indian market, but we’ll keep you posted about the same.
