Samsung takes on Xiaomi, Lenovo and Yu with the Galaxy Core Prime 4G: Price, specification and comparison

In order to take on affordable LTE capable smartphones from the likes of Xiaomi, Lenovo, Yu and Motorola among others, Samsung announced the Galaxy Core Prime 4G earlier this year. The smartphone is now available in India priced at Rs 9,999.

According to Mumbai-based mobile retailer Mahesh Telecom, the Galaxy Core Prime 4G is priced at Rs 9,999 and is bundled with a bunch of offers. These include 3GB free LTE data on Airtel network, free Hungama premium subscription for three months, and Vuclip prime subscription for three months.

As far as specifications go, the Galaxy Core Prime 4G sports a 4.5-inch WVGA (800×480 pixels) TFT LCD display, and is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor paired with 1GB of RAM. The smartphone also features 8GB internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 64GB using a microSD card.

On the photography front, there is a 5-megapixel camera at the back coupled with a 2-megapixel snapper up front. The smartphone also features a 2,000mAh battery and connectivity options like dual-SIM card slots, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and LTE (TD-LTE in Band 40 and FDD-LTE in Band 3).

The likes of Samsung outing LTE-capable smartphones at sub-Rs 10,000 is a testament to the growth of the segment. While an LTE Samsung smartphone will be welcomed by buyers, the spec sheet is a tad disappointing to say the least. At this price point, buyers have other options like the Yu Yureka, Lenovo A7000, Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G and the recently launched Honor 4C.
