CES 2015 Live: Asus launches Zenfone Zoom, the world’s “thinnest smartphone with a 3X optical zoom camera”
In addition to the Zenfone 2, Asus also launched the Zenfone Zoom, a smartphone which is clearly aimed to take on Samsung’s Galaxy Zoom line of smartphones. It is said to be the world’s “thinnest smartphone with a 3X optical zoom camera,” and it will go on sale in Q2 this year, priced at $399 (Rs 25,290 approximately).
Asus had recently released a video teasing the “optical zoom” feature of this smartphone. At first glance, the back of the Zenfone Zoom resembles the Lumia 1020. It boasts a 13-megapixel camera with 3X optical zoom, laser auto focus and optical image stabilization. The 10-element lens design also allows for 12X digital zoom. On the front, there is a 5-megapixel camera for selfie lovers.
The rear camera is capable of shooting macro photos at close to 5cm from the subject, and there is also a Low-Light Mode, which the company claims is good enough for clicking up to 400 percent brighter photos in the dark. There is also a manual mode for those wanting more control over the camera’s settings.
As for the rest of the specifications, the Zenfone Zoom flaunts a 5.5-inch full HD (1920×1080 pixels) IPS display, and runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop wrapped under the company’s Zen UI. Surprisingly, the company has kept the rest of the specifications under the wraps for now.
As mentioned above, the Zenfone Zoom will launch in the second quarter of this year, priced at $399.
