For the past few months, there have been numerous rumors around when the OnePlus One will launch in India. The rumor mills can finally take a break as OnePlus has today officially announced the One in India, which will go on sale on December 2, exclusively via Amazon India. The company is also hosting an event in New Delhi on the same date, where it is expected to reveal the price of the smartphone.

As reported before, the OnePlus One will be available in India via an invite system. Only those with an invite will be able to buy the smartphone from Amazon India on December 2. Those interested can apply for invites on OnePlus’ India website or Amazon India.

The OnePlus is often referred to as the “flagship killer,” courtesy of the kind of specifications and features it packs in and the price tag it boasts. Speaking of which, it flaunts a 5.5-inch full HD 1080p display, and is powered by a 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor coupled with 3GB of RAM.

Also featured are 13-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front-facing camera 64GB internal storage, and a 3,100mAh battery. On the software front, the smartphone runs on the CyanogenMod ROM CM11s with several customized features.

While the company hasn’t revealed the exact pricing of the One, it had announced recently that the 64GB variant it is launching in India will be priced below Rs 25,000.

In addition to partnering Amazon India, India also marks the first country outside OnePlus’ headquarters to have a dedicated team, as well as walk-in support for users around the country. The Indian operations will be led by General Manager of OnePlus India, Vikas Agarwal.

“Our company focuses first on our users and our product,” said Pete Lau, CEO of OnePlus. “We want to provide the best possible experience for our Indian users who have been so supportive of our vision. To do that, we are investing heavily in our Indian operations and partnering with the fastest growing and most admirable e-commerce company in the market, Amazon.in”

OnePlus’ business model is reminiscent of Xiaomi, which entered India earlier this year. It has partnered Flipkart to exclusively sell its smartphones on the e-commerce site, and coincidentally, its newest phone will go on sale on the same day as the One. Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note on Monday, which will go on sale on Flipkart on December 2. Registrations for the sale kicked off yesterday.
