Now you can call STD phone numbers without using 0 or +91 prefix in India

In a significant move, phone users in India will now be able to dial STD numbers without the need of putting 0 or +91 as a prefix. This move comes after telecom companies have begun to implement the full MNP order by the Department of Telecom (DoT).

This removal of distinction between local and STD calls marks as an important step ahead towards the goal of achieving mobile number portability (MNP). Several telecom companies have already started to simplify the process, and it seems to work for subscribers of Airtel in Mumbai and Delhi. However, Vodafone users in Mumbai seem to not have this service activated yet.

The simplified dialing pattern is still being rolled out, and there are chances that you may have not received it yet (depending on your network operator and region), but it should be rolled out nation-wide before July.

July is the deadline given to telecom companies by Department of Telecom to fully implement MNP. This will enable users to change their telecom operator without ever changing their phone number. Currently, MNP exists but only if the number is registered in the same circle. However after July, that is about to change, and you will be able to port your number anywhere across India irrespective of circles.
