Amazon Dash button would now let you order stuff with a single press
Amazon has introduced the Dash Button, a concept so outlandish that most of us thought it to be a part of an elaborate April Fool’s Day spoof by Amazon. As it turns out the Dash button was not a hoax and an attempt by Amazon to make household inventory management better.The functionality remains the same, Press the dash button and you will automatically get the stuff you ordered for at your doorstep. This is after you are fine sticking chunky buttons all over your place. Amazon has conceived the Dash button for stuff you replenish regularly – think about washing detergent, toothpaste, coffee… You get the idea.
The Dash buttons are available for a bevy of consumables that includes Gatorade, Kraft mac and cheese, Glad trash bags, Gillette razors, Cottonelle toilet paper, Clorex Wipes, Tide Detergent and Huggies diapers amongst many others. Amazon Prime members (privileged members something similar to Flipkart First) can already choose to send an invite and once accepted they will get a free set of branded buttons. The minimum shipping amount is set to $35.
As of now Amazon has refrained from offering addictive substances like Potato wafers, RedBull on the Dash buttons. The Dash button is preprogrammed with a set quantity of that particular item and once the user presses the button an order for the predetermined quantity is placed. At any given time, the button would accept only one press at a time till the stuff is delivered. In case of an erroneous ordering customers can change or cancel their orders on the phone.
The Dash button will be powered by a battery and will remain in a non active mode. It will only get activated only once the user presses the button. The button is powered by a Wi-Fi chip that gets authenticated with the router.
Amazon’s newest invention might not be India ready as it does not offer Prime services and moreover the online shopping phenomena is still at its infancy when it comes to groceries and household items
