Samsung today rather quietly unveiled a new tablet in Russia, called the Galaxy Tab A. The tablet is available in two variants with an 8-inch display, and the other with a 9.7-inch display, AllAboutPhones reports.

In line with the previous leaks, the new tablet flaunts displays with 4:3 aspect ratio. This is to compete against the likes of the Apple iPads, and the Google Nexus 9.

As far as specifications are concerned, the Galaxy Tab A flaunts a 1024×768 pixels display, and is powered by a 1.2GHz Cortex-A53 quad-core processor paired with 2GB of RAM. Also included are 5-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera, 16GB internal storage, which can be expanded up to 128GB using a microSD card, and a 4,200mAh battery.

Connectivity options include LTE support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and on the software front, it runs on Android Lollipop out-of-the-box. Samsung has also taken pains to keep the tablets really thin, and they feature a thickness of only 7.5mm.

Both the variants of the Galaxy Tab A are set to go on sale in Russia next month, but there is no word of a launch in other markets.
