Samsung Galaxy S Edge dual-edged curved display design leaked in new patent
With MWC about a month away, much of the rumors have been around the forthcoming Samsung Galaxy S6. It’s however the Galaxy S Edge with a curved display that is turning out to be far more interesting. Samsung’s patent for the Galaxy S Edge have surface online, courtesy of Patently Mobile, giving us a clear look at what the forthcoming smartphone could look like.
The Galaxy S Edge, as seen in the sketches, has a display that curves on both the sides unlike the Galaxy Note Edge where the display curved only on one side. Also unlike the latter, the display curves all the way to the back. What this means is, unlike the Galaxy Note Edge’s screen that is only usable when the phone is faced upwards, the dual-edged screen on the Galaxy S Edge will also be usable when kept faced downwards.
As for the functionalities, the extra-space on the edges will most likely be used to display notifications, quick access to settings or camera, and media controls among others. But what is the most interesting aspect seen in the sketches is a feature called “Pop-up.” While there is nothing is known about the particular feature, the sketches show a panel at the top which pops out.
As with all patents, we will warn you that not all that is shown in the patent makes it to the final product. These sketches instead only give us a fair idea of what the Galaxy S Edge could be all about.
Not a lot is known about curved display variant of the Galaxy S6. As for the forthcoming flagship device however, reports claim that it will feature a 5.1-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display, Gorilla Glass 4 protection, 64-bit octa-core Exynos CPU, 5-megapixel selfie camera, 32/64/128GB internal storage, and 2,550mAh battery with fast charging mode. As for design, the flagship device is said to boast a metal and glass body.
Both the smartphones are expected to be unveiled at Samsung’s MWC event on March 1. The company recently sent out invites for the event.
