Qualcomm today unveiled four new processors — the Snapdragon 618, 620, 415, and the 425. These processors are targeted at mid-range smartphones, and claim to bring performance of a high-end smartphone. The company’s Snapdragon 800 series processors power the high-end smartphones and flagship handsets. But with the mid-range segment seeing the bulk of sales, and boasting comparable specifications and features, it is not surprising to see Qualcomm focusing on this segment.

The Snapdragon 415 and the Snapdragon 425 will both feature octa-cores based on the Cortex A53 designs. The new chipsets are 64-bit capable and support the ARMv8 instruction set. They are all manufactured on a 28nm manufacturing process which is still considered to be one of the most energy efficient and high performance manufacturing processes.

Qualcomm has also set up dual Image Signal Processors (ISP) which is expected to improve camera performance in low end and mid-range phones. Another feature is Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0, which the company claims can charge most of the phones from zero to 80 percent in just about an hour.

The primary difference between the Snapdragon 415 and 425 will be the LTE Speed as the 415 uses the X5 LTE Modem supporting speeds up to 100 Mbps, while the 425 will feature the X8 modem supporting speeds up to 300 Mbps.

The Snapdragon 620 and the Snapdragon 618, on the other hand, borrow features from the 800 series including support for 4K videos. Both the chipsets come with the X8 Modem for superior LTE Speeds. The graphical memory bandwidth is also enhanced which will help in running 4K videos for prolonged time, thanks to the dual channel LPDDR3.
