Three months after Google released Android 5.0 Lollipop, the latest iteration of Google’s mobile operating system has finally made a dent on the Android Developers Dashboard. According to the latest stats released by Google, Android 5.0 now accounts for 1.6 percent of current Android install base.

Google released the Android 5.0 Lollipop to public on November 3 last year. The version brings with it a number of new features including a revamped user interface, improved locked screen, better security features, and support for Android ART runtime by default among others.

The Lollipop software update is only available for select handsets. Except for the some Nexus handsets including the Nexus 6 and Nexus 5 which received the update last year, only a few handsets have the latest update available to them. Motorola recently started to rollout the said update to select handsets, and it wasn’t until yesterday that HTC One (M8) was also snagging the Android Lollipop.

That said, Google should expect a substantial growth in the market share of its latest version of Android in the coming months as more and more smartphone manufacturers have started to push the update.

With 44.5 percent share, Jelly Bean is the most widely used Android version, followed by KitKat which has captured 39.7 percent of the install base.
