Xiaomi Mi 4 vs Xiaomi Mi 3: Here’s what’s new

Xiaomi launched the Mi 4 in India , priced at Rs 19,999. The smartphone essentially succeeds the Mi 3, which was on sale last year. The latter, however, has been discontinued in the country. So what has changed? What new features does the Mi 4 bring that you won’t get on the Mi 3? Here’s a look at every minute difference in the two handsets.

Size

As far as the dimension and size of the handsets are concerned, the Mi 4 is a bit smaller and compact than the Mi 3. The Mi 3 sports dimensions of 144x72x8.10mm, compared with Mi 4’s 139.20×68.50×8.90mm.

Display

On the display front, you aren’t going to notice any difference. Both the handsets sport 5-inch display with same full HD screen resolution. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer, however, claims that the Mi 4 comes with one glass solution technology. Other than that, both the panels are exactly the same.

Processor and RAM

The Mi 3 is powered by a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 chipset, while the Mi 4 is powered by a 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 processor. On the memory front, the Mi 3 comes with 2GB of RAM, whereas the Mi 4 packs in 3GB of RAM.

Camera

The camera sensors on both handsets are quite different, too. The Mi 3 comes with a 13-megapixel camera with f/2.2 aperture, making the device capable of shooting 1080p videos. On the front, the handset comes with a 2-megapixel selfie camera.
The Mi 4, on the other hand, too has a 13-megapixel camera, but with improved f/1.8 aperture, enabling the handset to record 4K videos at 30fps. As for the selfie sensor, the Mi 4 packs in an 8-megapixel sensor on top.

Battery

When it comes to the battery end, both the handsets have almost similar offerings. The Mi 3 packs in a 3,050mAh battery, while the Mi 4 comes with 3,080mAh battery.

Price

As for pricing, the Mi 4 is considerably more expensive than the Mi 3. When it was on sale the latter was priced at Rs 13,999, while the Mi 4 will go on sale priced at Rs 19,999.

Software

Both the handsets run on Android KitKat, though their custom versions are a bit different as of now. The Mi 3 is running on MIUI 5, while the Mi 4 runs on the latest MIUI 6. Mi 3 users, however, don’t need to be disappointed, as the company announced that the smartphone will soon be getting MIUI 6 as well.
