Ever been in a situation when you have forgotten some important file on your PC, but are miles away from home? Google let users on Android access the computer via its app called the Chrome Remote Desktop app, which it released back in April last year. Nine months later, the search giant has launched the app for iOS devices.

The app is compatible with devices running on iOS 7.0 and above and essentially lets you access your PC from an iPhone, iPad or an iPod touch. The app comes a bit later than what Google had earlier predicted. When launching the Android app, the company had said that the iOS version would be launched “later this year.”

Here’s how it works

The app is quite similar to how software like TeamViewer or Google’s own Remote Chrome Desktop work. The app lets users remotely access their computers from their iOS devices. Users will first need to install the app on their iOS devices, and also install the Chrome Remote Desktop extension for the browser as well.

To remotely access the computer, you will further need to install the software called Chrome Remote Desktop Host. Once installed, the Chrome extension will ask you to add a six-digit PIN number that will be used to connect with the mobile app. Once the PIN is set, you will see your computer listed on the app. Click on it and add the PIN number you set to finally get access to your computer. In the brief time we spent using the app, it worked smoothly and we were easily able to connect to the office computer.

You can head over to the App Store to download the Google Chrome Remote Desktop app. Additionally, you can also head over to the Chrome Web Store to download and install the browser extension.
