The days of commercial 3D printing is not far. Just last year around the same time, we saw the handheld 3D printer in action and going up the success ladder on Kickstarter. And now, folks at Wobbleworks have launched its successor. 3Doodler 2.0 has just been officially launched at CES 2015 and is now on Kickstarter.

The new and improved 3Doodler is a huge upgrade from its predecessor. It is more compact, about the size of a large marker pen, while the original handheld printer was the size of a nice healthy chicken roll. The second-gen device has also lost weight, and is now only 50 grams heavy (about half of the original’s weight).

Word from the ground is that it makes relatively less noise and saves power too. The pen requires heat to draw, therefore electricity is essential. But its much more crisper, tiny and neat.

The device will be listed on Kickstarter for 20 days, and just like the first-gen model, this one’s priced at $99 too. However, the first 100 buyers will get it just for $50. WobbleWorks promises these early-birds shipping of the device within a month. After the 100 ceiling is crossed, all those who pledge on the first day will still get the handheld 3D printer at a discount of $85, but will get the device shipped in April.
