CES 2015 Live: Samsung SSD T1 is smaller than a business card but packs in 1TB of storage

Samsung today unveiled a new portable solid-state drive (SSD) called SSD T1 at the ongoing event at CES. The talking points of this portable drive are not only its performance or security capabilities, but the fact that it is smaller than a business card.

The drive is really tiny measuring 71.0×9.2×53.2mm, weighs only 30 grams. In fact when showcasing the SSD T1 on stage, Samsung America’s COO Tim Baxter easily slipped the portable drive into his shirt pocket.

Despite the tiny size the SSD T1 packs up to 1TB of storage. As for performance, the T1 boasts transfer speeds of up to 450 megabytes per second (MB/s), and also boasts high-level of security with support for AES 256-bit data encryption. The drive also comes with embedded security software.

As you would have guessed by now, such small form factor and high-level performance doesn’t come cheap. Prices start at $179 (Rs 11,350 approximately) for 256GB, $299 (Rs 18,960 approximately) for 500GB and $599 (Rs 37,980 approximately) for 1TB variants. The drive will go on sale later this month on January 20.
