CES 2015 Live: HP announces Mac Mini clone Pavilion Mini and Chromebook-like Stream Mini
If you ever craved for a Mac Mini clone which runs Windows out of the box, HP has something in store for you. The company announced on Monday at the ongoing CES event, the Pavilion Mini, a cereal bowl sized full-fledged Windows 8.1 machine. The company also announced the Stream Mini PC, which essentially is a Chromebook counterpart for people who prefer using Windows operating system.
While it’s a small device, don’t underestimate the efficiency of the Pavilion Mini. The full-fledged device runs Windows 8.1 and comes paired with Intel Pentium or Core i3 processor, with up to 8GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. It also offers a Display Port, and an HDMI output, 4 USB 3.0 ports, an audio jack, an Ethernet port, and is amazingly capable of driving two monitors at once.
One of the best features of the device is its power efficiency. While a typical desktop computer consumes as much as 250 watts of energy, the Pavilion Mini draws just 45 watts of power. And of course, not to forget, the Pavilion Mini is more mobile friendly and doesn’t take as much space on your desk.
HP has been trying to attract Chromebook lovers for a while now. The company first announced HP Stream last year, a full-fledged laptop running on Windows 8.1 for just $200, and now the company is after the people who prefer to save everything to the cloud.
Meet Stream Mini, an Intel Celeron powered notebook which comes with 2GB of RAM and offers just 32GB SSD. Much like Google, which offers 200 gigs of Drive storage space to every new Chromebook user, HP has collaboration with Microsoft to provide 200GB free OneDrive storage valid for 2 years. If that wasn’t enough, you also get a $25 credit with purchase of the Stream Mini which you can use to buy application from the Windows Store.
The Pavilion Mini will set you back by $319 for the Pentium model with 4GB of RAM and 500 GB HDD, whereas the Stream Mini starts at $179.99 for a model with 2GB of RAM.
