The first thing that comes to mind when you’re looking at Nokia smartphones are their vibrant colors and the Lumia 535 continues that strong tradition. Enjoy the extensive Lumia experience which gives you all the benefits of Skype, Cortana, Office and OneDrive included as part of the latest and greatest Windows Phone experience, at an affordable price.

Perhaps the other thing that you would notice is that the Lumia 535 is the first smartphone that drops the Nokia name and replaces it with Microsoft. Did you notice it anyway? Or did the Lumia branding is more important that you remember it easily? Whatever it is, let’s breakdown for you what the latest smartphone by them is all about.

First up, the Lumia 535 is measured at 140.2 x 72.4 x 8.8 mm (5.52 x 2.85 x 0.35 in) and weighs 146 g (5.15 oz). It might not be the slimmest or the lightest but it is averagely built and feels comfortable in the palm of your hand.

It comes with a 5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 540 x 960 pixels or ~220 ppi pixel density which makes for a pretty decent viewing.

Under the hood of the Lumia 535 is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 chipset paired with a Quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 processor, Adreno 302 and 1GB of RAM. The performance is smack in the middle of other mid-range offerings and it isn’t too shabby at all.

Camera-wise, it is equipped with a 5 Megapixel primary camera of 2592 x 1936 pixels, autofocus, LED flash, 1/4” sensor size and geo-tagging. The secondary camera is also a 5 Megapixel shooter which means that the smartphone is more of a selfie phone more than others.

You can now take stunning selfies and fit more friends into the picture with the wide-angle, 5 MP camera. And coming with the popular Lumia Selfie app installed for easy access to the front-facing camera, it is easy to enhance your selfies with filters and easily share with friends from the app to OneDrive, Instagram, Twitter and more.

The Lumia 535 is running on Microsoft Windows Phone 8.1 which is the latest version of Windows Phone. And with regular over-the-air updates, you’ll always have the newest software.

With Microsoft Office built in, and quick access to your files through OneDrive, viewing and editing your documents is easy.

It comes with 8GB of internal storage plus a microSD slot which supports up to 128GB for your expansion needs. There’s also 15 GB of free OneDrive storage so you can now upload your photos and share them with friends in a private folder.

Battery-wise, it has a rather limited Li-Ion 1905 mAh battery which is a little bit on the low side. If you’re a heavy user, consider investing in a powerbank just in case you’re running out of juice and is on the go.

Being the first Microsoft smartphone seems much easy now that it carries the Lumia branding with it. People would not notice the change at first but the Lumia 535 might just kick start an otherwise troubled company as it forges ahead on a new path to reclaim its past glory.

The Microsoft Lumia 535 is available for approximately $149 USD or close to the equivalent in your market and is available in orange, green, white, black, gray and blue.
